NO WINTER LASTS FOREVER by BERNADETTE O’REILLY

Yesterday a wintry sun encouraged
a walk in the local park,
Not many people about so soon after New Year’s.
Some dog walkers
A family of three bike riders
Father and daughter feeding the ducks,
her pink jacket noticeable against the white of birds
that flew low above her head as she threw bread into the pond.
A large black dog looking to make friends and play
excitedly bounded over,
despite rejection he kept returning,
a lesson there somewhere.
Watching ducks and white swans
tranquil moment passed under a blue sky.
Home for tea and cake,
thoughts whirling with plans for this New Year.
No Winter lasts forever.
