Ask Google

boy-and-dog-01

“Go on, Google it” Paddy said. “Google has the answer to life, the universe and everything, and despite what Douglas Adams says, it’s not 42”

“It’s all very well for you to talk about Google. What about a died in the wool Luddite like me who has never used a computer in his life, and has no wish or desire to start now. How are we supposed to manage without your google thingy?”

I was thoroughly sick and tired of being advised to ask Google. And it makes me incandescent with rage when companies with which I’m trying to do business, direct me to “Our Website”

If I wanted to deal with a bodiless machine why would I be talking on the phone to a person? Paddy was very put out by my attitude to modern technology. He’s a committed techie, whatever that means and like all converts he feels an over mastering need to preach the gospel of his new, quasi religion.

“It’s the future” He declaimed “Kids in school are being taught on iPads nowadays, soon there’ll be no paper books left and all their toys will be remote controlled from their wristwatch. It’ll be a whole new, and better world for them”

“Tell that to James, the little boy with autism, and his best friend ” I riposted.
