FALLEN ANGEL by ANNE MORGAN

(From Roddy Doyle to Elizabeth Barrett Browning)

Not much peace

In your lifetime

Not much peace

Now

Children still neglected

Still unhappiness

I have regrets

Born in the Bronx

A lowly schoolteacher

Till I made it big

Got high on caffeine

As I battled with words

You battled with words

Too

Battled with song

And with verse

In a man’s worl

Struggled for identity

Not just a woman

But a poet
